Ohio University’s Schoonover Center for Communication (Phase II)  was awarded LEED CI Gold in 2016. The Schoonover Center was a two-phase improvement project designed to house all five schools of the Scripps College of Communication under one roof. HLMS Sustainability Solutions joined the team for Phase II, which renovated the 114,000 square-foot facility, to guide the teams through the LEED Certification process. Although the project was only expected to earn LEED Silver, the Schoonover Center Phase II Project earned LEED Gold, a first for any building at Ohio University.
    Performance Green Building Features:
      • 43% Water Use Reduction
      • 50% of the building's energy consumption has been off-set by investment in 'Off Site Renewable Energy' (Green Power)
      • 23% Reduction of Power needed for Lighting
      • 31% of materials has been regionally sourced within 500 of the project
      • 29% of materials is comprised of recycled content
      • 54% of woods used is comprised of Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified Wood
      • 77% construction waste diverted from landfill
      • 100% of paints, adhesives, composite woods, and flooring is low/no VOC emitting
      • Enhanced commissioning performed
